Scimitar Hunting:
Texas Location: Brackettville Ranch
Country of Origin: North Africa
Name Variations: Horned Oryx
The Scimitar, also called the Horned Oryx, is a fast, cunning and strong antelope with a temper to match. Tracking and harvesting one of these animals is a magnificent hunting experience. The Scimitar's ringed horns grow up to 30 inches long, making them formidable weapons. These animals are well known for turning 180 degrees and attacking the predators that are stalking them, sometimes resulting in the stalker's death. This animal can weigh up to 400 pounds.
The Scimitar's native land is in North Africa. They were imported into Texas back in the early 70's, which turned out to be the animal's salvation as they are almost extinct in Africa. Today, it is estimated that there are between 10,000 and 12,000 wild Scimitars roaming Texas. We do have herds on our ranch. They have been attracted by the many Whitetail Deer feeding and watering stations on our ranch.
We hunt Scimitar from tree stands. Stands are strategically placed in areas where their herds are known to roam. This hunt is available at our Brackettville Ranch, which has excellent accommodations with all the comforts of home.
